Now the MetService long range forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Saturday

The Situation

A large ridge of high pressure covers most of the country today, and weakens over central and southern New Zealand tomorrow. Meanwhile, showery westerlies continue in the far south, while a moist northeasterly flow develops over northern New Zealand, followed by an approaching front.

Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow

Northland to Waitomo including Coromandel

Fine spells today. Cloud increasing tomorrow and scattered showers developing.

Bay of Plenty and the central high country

Mainly fine. Isolated evening showers for the Bay of Plenty. A few showers tomorrow.

Gisborne to Wairarapa, also Taranaki to Wellington

Partly cloudy today. Cloud increasing tomorrow. Showers tomorrow evening about Taranaki Maunga.

Nelson and Marlborough, also Buller to Westland

Fine today. Cloud increasing tomorrow, and rain developing tomorrow evening in Nelson and Marlborough.

Fiordland, Canterbury, Otago and Southland

Fine, apart from some showers in Fiordland and about the south coast.

Chatham Islands

Partly cloudy with isolated showers.

And the outlook for the following three days...

Thursday

North Island: Rain with heavy falls, spreading south and east in the morning. South Island: Cloudy. Rain in the north, with heavy falls, spreading elsewhere in the morning and afternoon.

Friday

North Island: Early rain in Gisborne, then a few showers. Partly cloudy in Hawke's Bay. Showers elsewhere. South Island: Rain in the east clearing early. Showers elsewhere.

Saturday

North Island: Showers for most. South Island: Mostly cloudy in Grey. Showers elsewhere, easing in the north.

And at the Chathams

Rain developing Thursday evening, with some heavy falls on Friday, then easing to a few showers on Saturday. Northerlies, strong for a time on Friday, then dying out on Saturday.
