The Situation
A front from the Tasman moves across central and northern areas of the North Island today while a second, more active, front affects southern New Zealand. The second front moves to the North Island tomorrow and becomes slow-moving.
Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow
Northland, Auckland and Coromandel
Cloudy periods. Isolated showers.
Waikato to Kapiti, including Bay of Plenty and the central high country
Evening showers. Rain tomorrow, with some heavy falls north of Taranaki, easing to isolated showers from Taranaki southwards tomorrow morning.
Gisborne and Hawke's Bay
Mainly fine today. Rain at times tomorrow, clearing Hawke's Bay tomorrow afternoon and southern Gisborne tomorrow evening.
Wellington and Wairarapa
Cloud increasing today. A period of rain overnight, then becoming fine tomorrow morning.
In the west from Buller to Fiordland
Rain with heavy falls, developing this afternoon or evening. Easing to showers about Fiordland tonight and elsewhere tomorrow morning.
Nelson, Marlborough, Canterbury, Otago and Southland
Rain spreading east later today. Becoming fine tomorrow, but isolated showers linger about Canterbury and Otago.
Chatham Islands
Few showers today. Rain later tomorrow.

Wednesday
North Island: Periods of rain from Taranaki northwards, some possibly heavy, easing later. Few showers elsewhere clearing. South Island: Rain in the west and south, possibly heavy at times. Scattered showers elsewhere, but mainly fine in Marlborough and northern Canterbury.
Thursday
North Island: Rain developing in the north. Partly cloudy elsewhere, with isolated showers in the west. South Island: Rain with some heavy falls in the west and north. A few showers elsewhere.
Friday
North Island: Periods of rain or showers, possibly heavy in the west. Clearing in the east later. South Island: Rain or showers, possibly heavy falls in the west. Clearing from Marlborough and Canterbury later.
And at the Chathams
A few showers, clearing late Wednesday. Showers returning Friday. Westerlies, tending north on Thursday. Northwesterlies strengthening on Friday.
