The teenage boxer Joseph Parker has claimed New Zealand's final medal at the Youth Olympics in Singapore, winning silver in the super heavyweight class overnight, and his coach says he now must fight overseas if he's to progress.
The 18 year old was out-pointed by Frenchman Tony Yoka in the gold medal match, with the Manukau product unable to catch up with his opponent after narrowly falling behind in the count.
Parker has won three medals over the last six months as he prepares for October's Commonwealth games in Delhi but coach Grant Arkell says he needs consistent bouts outside of Australasia to reach his true potential.
New Zealand finished the games with seven medals including one gold, five silvers and one bronze.
