Two more cases of measles have been confirmed in the Wellington region, bringing the total number of known cases nationwide to 16.

Health New Zealand (HNZ) said one of the new cases was a student at Wellington Girls' College.

The other case was being assessed for any links to existing cases.

Neither of the two new cases were linked to overseas travel.

HNZ said it was working with the school to prevent further spread in the school community.

Six cases have now been identified in Wellington, five in Auckland, two in Manawatū, and one each in Northland, Taranaki and Nelson.

HNZ said a record number of 2098 doses of the MMR vaccine were given on Friday - the highest daily record since 2019.

Meanwhile, in Auckland, Acting Prime Minister David Seymour was at Auckland Grammar on Saturday, as about 300 students and teachers were getting blood tests to test immunity.

Year 9 and 10 students were asked to stay home from Auckland Grammar on Friday, after exposure to a measles case at the school about a week ago.

Seymour commended Auckland Grammar for its efforts to control the outbreak.

As well as the 16 cases, 2000 close contacts exist around the country.
