An alleged "brazen daylight robber" has been arrested and charged after police say they chased a person on a Palmerston North street, threatened to hurt them and stole the jewellery they were wearing.
Police were called to Main St outside Downtown Shopping Centre about 1pm on Monday.
A person had been robbed of their jewellery "under the threat of violence", they said.
Officers used reports and CCTV to find the suspected thief, and arrested them an hour later.
The stolen jewellery was found in a vehicle nearby and returned to the victim, who was shaken but uninjured, Detective Sergeant Richard How said.
"It is great to get such a quick arrest for them and members of the public," he said.
A 29-year-old man is due to appear in the Palmerston North District Court on Thursday, charged with non-aggravated robbery.
