Fire and Emergency have managed to extinguish a fire which ignited in the early hours of the morning at Auckland Zoo.

A zoo spokesperson says no animals or people were harmed during a fire on Friday and it'll be business as usual on Friday.

Crews got the call after 4.30am, and put out the fire in the roof of a building.

Six appliances were sent at the height of the blaze which was located in the roof of an electrical switchroom.

An electrical fault in the Swamp Forest Dome's service area sparked smoke.

But the zoo says failsafe systems kicked in, leaving little damage.
