A main highway linking Hawke's Bay to Taupō is down to one lane due to dangerous conditions caused by a diesel spill.
Police said the northbound lanes of State Highway 5 (Napier-Taupō Road) at Te Pōhue northwest of Eskdale were shut.
Crews were cleaning it up, and motorists were advised to take care.
