A Hauraki iwi, Ngati Tamatera, fears its tribal waterways could become polluted because of mining work by a company running tests at Karangahake, south of Paeroa; The company, New Talisman Gold Mines, is making it clear no contaminates would end up in the water; East coast tribes and the Maori language community are mourning the death of a "fighter of Te Reo Maori"; The Government is introducing special leglislation for a joint venture between Riccarton Park Racecourse Trustees and Ngai Tahu Property to develop areas of land on the edge of the racecourse ready for around 600 new homes.
