Appeal for specialist eating disorder services in the South Island reaches Parliament

From Morning Report, 8:23 am on 2 June 2021

An appeal for specialist eating disorder services for South Islanders reaches Parliament today.

No specialist beds exist in the South Island for children, who are currently treated at the psychiatric unit at Princess Margaret hospital.

A group of dietitians, parents and carers are behind a petition for a specialist eating disorder unit to be included in the new Dunedin Hospital, saying it would save lives.

Christchurch-based dietitian Victoria Schonwald spoke to Philippa Tolley.
