The government is postponing the full force of its numeracy and literacy benchmark - after teens complained online testing for NCEA was too hard.
However, it will only be for two years - while schools get up to speed with their teaching of reading, writing and maths.
It's also deferring major NCEA changes so schools can concentrate on numeracy and literacy.
