League

Toa Samoa and Fetu Samoa have both jumped up the ranks of international rugby league, following their results during the recent Pacific Championships.

The latest International Rugby League rankings has the Samoa men leapfrogging Tonga into fourth place, with the Tongans dropping to fifth.

Papua New Guinea is at number six with Fiji at seventh.

Fetu Samoa has jumped from 12th to fifth spot on the women's side.

PNG is sixth, Cook Islands ninth and Fiji 10th.

Australia remains world number one in both men's and women's rankings, with New Zealand at number two, ahead of England.

Rugby

The Flying Fijians are now eighth in the World Rugby rankings, ahead of December's draw for the 2027 Rugby World Cup.

They overtake Scotland, who have dropped to ninth spot.

Fiji Rugby Union board chairman John Sanday said that is great news, despite the team's losses to England and France in the past two weekends.

Sanday said having a top eight ranking will help in getting a better pool for the 2027 World Cup.

Football

The semifinals in the women's competition at the 2025 Melanesian Cup tournament in Port Moresby will get underway on Wednesday afternoon.

Hosts Papua New Guinea meet Solomon Islands in the first clash at 1pm local time.

Fiji faces Vanuatu in the second match.

Men's semifinals will be held on Thursday, with PNG facing Fiji while Solomon Islands will battle Vanuatu.

Futsal

New Zealand's Waikato Rapids continue their unbeaten run at the Oceania Futsal Men's Champions League in Suva, with a 5-1 win over Gulf Komara FC on Tuesday night.

They have won three games so far.

Gulf Komara FC suffered another big blow after they were thrashed 12-5 by Mataks FC.

Defending champions AS PTT and Suva FC battled to a nil-all draw in the main match of the day.

Matches continue on Thursday.
