As a teenager, Charlotte Naden decided she wasn't quite good enough on the violin to play it professionally and took up the bassoon instead.
But she didn't drop the violin entirely; these days you'll see her playing folk music on the fiddle.
In fact, Naden is so good at her "hobby" she'll soon be playing fiddle on one of the biggest stages in the world - this year's Edinburgh Tattoo.
Naden spoke to RNZ Concert's Bryan Crump a few days before she was due to leave for her big folk gig in Scotland.
Naden was back home for a holiday. These days she's based in the Swedish city of Malmö, where she works as a freelance bassoonist.

Malmö became her home when she went there to study bassoon, and because she has a EU passport (thanks to her Irish ancestry) she decided to stay after she graduated from music school.

Naden's Irish roots are one of the reasons she was drawn to folk music.
As a teenager, she started to go to Scottish folk music gatherings in Auckland with her mother (who would take along her cello).
She was good enough to get a fiddling gig when the Edinburgh Tattoo came to Wellington in 2015.
This year's Edinburgh Tattoo was the first time she had to audition to take part - something she was pretty nervous about, but she passed with flying colours.
As you can see in the video below, her bassoon playing's not that bad either.
Naden says she's loving life in Sweden. Living in Europe, even northern Europe puts her in range of plenty of work that's only a few hours away by train.
Edinburgh is much closer as well, although Naden is hoping she'll get a chance to fiddle back in her home town when the Tattoo comes to Auckland next year.
