Katie Todd

What I cover: I’m a Queenstown-based journalist reporting on breaking and developing news across the southern mainland. My role takes me across the rohe to cover all kinds of stories - with a particular curiosity for public policy, social issues, health and justice. I’m a firm believer that strong journalism keeps democracy honest and opens the door to meaningful change.

My background: Over seven years full-time in the industry, I’ve worked in RNZ’s Auckland and Christchurch newsrooms, on Checkpoint, and in CBC’s newsroom in Whitehorse, in Canada’s Yukon Territory. I’ve been on the ground for major events including the Christchurch mosque attacks, the Queen’s funeral in London, natural disasters, Covid briefings and high-profile court trials. I cut my teeth with a communications degree from Massey University and a reporting role at the Ashburton Guardian before discovering the magic of broadcasting.
